Arrested for hypoglycemia

May 29, 2007

An ignorant DA is continuing with charges against diabetic Doug Burns, who was arrested during a hypoglycemic episode:

. . . the authorities pressing charges are publicly chastising Doug for negligence in his diabetes care, on the basis that he was temporarily on injections rather than his usual Animas pump at the time of the incident. This was because he had run out of infusion sets during recent conference travel and was awaiting a new box.

“If life were perfect, this would never have happened… but they need to understand that anyone with type 1 diabetes is pretty much at risk for hypoglycemia at any time,” Doug says.

There are a whole lot of “ignorant DA’s” out there.

Given the tens of thousands of new laws passed every year, it doesn’t take a foreign aggressor or fascist regieme to bring this nation to it’s needs–just enough DA’s with absolutely no common sense or sense of judgement.

I had a DA point out to me once that he could impose a police state on this town merely by choosing to consistently and rigorously enforce the law.

This guy must be from the Mike Nifong law school.

You’ve heard what the “best defense” is, right?

The DA’s aggressive stance has less to do with the merits of the case against the prosecutee, than the merits of the case against the police for inadequate trainging and/or failure to follow proper procedure.

This is “strategery” to make a lawsuit fail or be less successful.
The DA is NOT stupid. Just a dick.
