There is a lack of PET scanners in the UK

There are 10 PET scanners on the UK, and 80 in Germany. To put that in perspective, there are 80 in the state of Florida alone.

This problem goes far beyond the lung cancer cases presnted in the articles. PET scans are alsi indicated as the imaging technique of choice for suspected cases of early Alzheimer’s Disease. But then the UK has a shortage of neurologists too, which makes teh situation yet harder.

And some wonder why I’m no fan of socialized healthcare. It’s a beautiful idea, but in practice it’s an inefficient as any other bureaucratic, government-run program.
