USA Today op-ed reaction

A couple of letters published in today’s paper responding to my op-ed last week.

Marcia K. Flesner thinks there aren’t enough mid-levels practicing:

Instead of putting the skills of APRNs to work, however, the American Medical Association has chosen to use its well-funded resources to restrict the practice abilities of APRNs . . .

. . . Failure to use APRNs only leads to delays in obtaining care.

Specialist Nick Benton thinks that increasing cost is simply a function of age:

Old age is the most expensive cause of death.

The human body wears out slowly, and much more money than one has available can be spent on keeping it in good repair.

The only way to reduce health care costs in the long run is to ration care and to set strict limits right now. But don’t expect any politician to stand up and say that to the public during an election year.
