ER physician: "I am so afraid of making a mistake that I'm vomiting in my driveway before I go to work"

Newsweek spends 5 days at Grady Memorial’s ER in Atlanta. What they found was not pretty, yet pretty routine at the same time:

Gunshot wounds. Blood and brain matter. Exhausted nurses, endless wait times””and no end in sight. The only thing scarier than an average Saturday evening in the ER: What if it was forced to close?

Sorry for the immediate thread jack, but to the extent that fewer hand guns might result in shorter wait times in the ER, I’m in favor of gun control laws.

Lets support national economic collapse, if we couldn’t afford to overeat and ride in cars, that would cut even more ER visits!.

I feel sick for saying or thinking this, but we need one large metropolitan area to go through a meltdown. Large public hospital closes, goes bankrupt/etc. demostrating what happens when patients are insulated from the costs of their care.
I feel genuine pity for the ER staff at Grady and other places because I know what they are going through. The desire to serve and do right contrasted with the need to stay sane and provide for their families. The only good solution to this is personally, do not chose EM or IM/FM as a career. The front lines are the worst. Insulate yourself until the bean counters who are in control come up with a better solution.

I couldn’t handle the stress. Those guys are heros but heros get scarred.

anon: 7:20. “we need one large metropolitan area to go through a meltdown” New Orleans wasn’t enough? Sure it was caused by a natural disatster, but i don’t think the meltdown of that city has helped anyone or caused any changes. Why should another meltdown matter?

I hate to say it but this is not any different than it was 7 years ago. Detroit Recieving, Ben Taub, Charity, its the same and has been the same.
Maybee this will bring some publicity for a change but I doubt it.
