A physician analyzes Wal-Mart’s $4 drug plan

December 21, 2006

Despite hating Wal-Mart, he grudgingly accepts the benefits:

And needless to say I do all my shopping at Costco. But here I am referring patients to a particular company, a company I don’t like, and who’s treatment of it’s employees is a top flight embarrassment. but if I can get that diabetic all her presciptions for $20 a month, hell I’ll print out a map to the closest Walmart and tell future patients, as I told this one, do not stop anywhere else before they hit Walmart for their meds.

Wal-Mart is one of the great symbols of America.

I have to admit that I have switched 2 of my cardiac meds to Walmart since they are the $4 monthly variety, but I moved my Lipitor to Costco and saved $50 per month versus the hospital pharmacy I used prior. I’ll be checking Plavix pricing next. Walmart is certainly providing a good service to the public with this pricing scheme.

Well said Scapel! I’m always shocked by the Wal-mart bashing that exists these days. A small-town man started a business built on the philosophy of saving people money, its basically the American Dream. So what that they don’t pay for Health Ins for 1/2 of their associates: HC is not a right.

I saw an interview w/ the current CEO at the time and the question was something to the effect of “do you think Sam would turn in his grave if he knew you weren’t providing Health insurance for all of your employees?” The CEO had a great answer which was that above all else, Sam Walton valued consumerism. Which meant, people had to be wise consumers and prudent with their money. If the Co. payed for Insurance, than it would rob/prevent the employees from being responsible consumers of healthcare.

Ah yes, I’d love to have see a Sam Walton, Ayn Rand love child
