KevinMD posts of the week, ending January 30, 2011

Here are the top posts from this past week, based on the number of times they were viewed.

1. Useful things to buy during medical school. The following is a brief list of some of the things I think have been useful and worth their money in my first two years of med school.

2. How MD anesthesiologists have become victims of their own excellence. If you can’t force or entice our brightest students to stop applying for dermatology, orthopedic and radiology residency slots, then maybe you can at least give them a little competition for that business from non-MD sources.

3. Your worth as a physician can be judged by how people invoke God. As I walked into the ED for my shift, the nursing supervisor was fumbling with a syringe attempting to get medication out of a small vial.

4. Can a doctor and a nurse be friends in the OR? I’m certainly not going to change this blessed friendship for the sake of a few small-minded harpies who aren’t comfortable enough in their own skin to show some tolerance, respect, and support.

5. Create a disease to market a new drug. Many of us have a relatively simple, commonsense view of the way that drug development and marketing work.
