If insurance companies would reimburse adequately for MNT, then physicians will refer patients to qualified RD's who are able to sit down and spend the necessary one-to-one time with them.

This is why reimbursement for medical nutrition therapy provided by registered dietitians is essential. Medicine as a business complicates the goals. At the same time, lifestyle and whether the patients actually want to improve their lives and knowledge base as well as apply that knowledge is a whole different game.In reading Chris Brogan and Julien Smith's Trust Agents, one may wonder if we as Health Care workers are Trust Agents in our approach to providing service first without profit as a motive. Is 'spending more time' with these patients really the answer? Could we provide a better service to our patients by using Social Media platforms to educate those that have access to it and find ways like 'group therapy' to engage and help those that chose to take advantage of the help/service that is offered and provided.I submit that 'reimbursement' may ultimately be seen in word of mouth and human or patient capital if this approach is successful and thus replace the POS reimbursement with long term, recurring well visits. What do you think?

Encouraging alternative approaches for physician visit such as group appointments to provide more time per patient seems like an approach that should be expanded upon.
