The deprofessionalization of physicians has been going on for some time and this legislation will complete that process as it packages health care as a commodity. I am at a loss to understand how anyone can demand the services, skill and training of another as their right and entitlement while someone(s) else pays the bill at below market rates?? Consider what its worth to you and then ask that question again in 8-10 years when the full impact of this legislation, along with probably numerous unintended consequences, is in full bloom.I am looking for mass retirement of physicians over 50 once this legilslation goes into effect including that of my wife.

There is no bottom to the irresponsibility of these Democrats. Really, why is the AMA even addressing that? Bankrupting of medicare is for the politicians to deal with. If you're looking out for the interests of physicians, why is tort reform not mentioned at all???I'm just speculating, but is it perhaps because the AMA has been bought by malpractice lawyers and the malpractice insurance industry, just like the Obama administration?I think the AMA is on borrowed time, in terms of actually maintaining the false image of representing doctors (and why are medical students even allowed to be members? they have AMSA, and know even less than most working adults about practicing medicine). Thanks, Kumud Jindal, MD MPH

Dr. Rohack,
All of these issues you present have the potential to directly impact the livelihood of physicians and their practices, except perhaps the Medicare buy-in for 55-64 year-olds. It would be worthwhile to pass an insurance reform bill outlawing pre-existing condition discrimination and termination of insurance due to discovery of new illness and to just scrap the rest since they've already deep-sixed the public option. And wasn't this the rationale for reform in the first place.

The Senate bill will result in increased costs for the middle class, an unelected bureaucracy (think IRS, Federal Reserve) making healthcare decisions for doctors and patients, tax medical devices such as prosthetic limbs, pacemakers, etc, and when the dust settles, still leave millions of Americans uninsured.
