I’m happy to announce the KevinMD Twitter and Facebook Thanksgiving Drive 2009.
My forays into blogging, along with Twitter and Facebook, have provided me with countless new opportunities that I’m tremendously appreciative of.
Now, I want to use the power of social media to give back this Thanksgiving season.
What is this?
It’s simple. For every 100 new Twitter followers and Facebook fans I receive in the first two weeks of November, I will donate $50 to the United Way of Greater Nashua.
As of today, rounding down, I will use 16,100 Twitter followers and 1,000 Facebook fans as the starting point.
Great idea. What do I do?
Just click on the buttons above, and follow me on either Facebook or Twitter. Or both. That’s it.
But I already follow you on Facebook and Twitter
Thank you, I sincerely appreciate the support.
You can still participate by spreading the word anyway you can. Retweet this post, spread the word using your Facebook status, link to your blog, text your friends, tell local media, or add it to your e-mail signature. I’m sure there’s more.
Just direct people to this post, which will do all the explaining.
Here are links you can use:

What’s in it for me?
Aside from contributing to a worthy charity? And following me on Twitter and Facebook?
How about this. Prizes.
Once you’ve spread the word, leave a comment here describing what you did. It can be as simple as, “Re-Tweeted,” or, “Posted on Facebook.”
I will raffle off prizes to random individuals on the comment thread. Don’t forget to leave a valid e-mail contact in the appropriate field.
Here’s what we have so far.
Grand prize:
an iPod Touch, courtesy of Epocrates
Other prizes:
two scrub tops, and two scrub pants, courtesy of ScrubsGallery.com
$60 gift certificate to blue sky scrubs
I want to do more
Fantastic!
Individuals or businesses can further participate by matching my donation dollar for dollar, or any fraction thereof.
Or you can also contribute a prize to the aforementioned raffle.
Contact me if you want to get involved. Consider that my challenge to you.
Tell me more about the United Way of Greater Nashua
The United Way of Greater Nashua makes measurable improvements in lives by mobilizing the caring power of our communities, in this case, Nashua, New Hampshire and its surrounding neighborhoods.
Here are answers to some frequently asked questions about the organization.
Thanks to all of you for participating in this social media cause. And kudos to Tim Ferriss and his Tweet to Beat campaign, where this idea originated from.
I also appreciate the generous support of those who contributed prizes to the event.
I don’t quite know where this will lead, but the way I see it, it’s hard to see how anyone can lose.
Update 11/5/2009:
Thanks to Joan Kelly for matching my donation. As of today, total donations stand at $400.
I welcome anyone else who is willing to match my contributions. Thank you all.

So proud when I see that we are serving as we should! A greater cause. Congratulations! I retweeted in hopes others will follow!
Agree with Dr Valencia. Retweeted in hope you will add more followers.

No prize necessary!
Retweeted and posted on FB. Good luck!
Thanks for the charitable contributions, Kevin.
I checked out your United Way website for a few minutes and am glad to report I found no funding for abortion. You have to be careful with umbrella organizations that distribute money. Sometimes they support activity that you don’t

I re-tweeted! Good luck!
Retweeted the other day and posted to Facebook today–if I win the iPod Touch, please donate it to a local charity organization collecting holiday gifts or maybe to a children’s hospital ward.
I’ve retweeted and posted a link on my Facebook page. Of course, I’ve linked to stories on KevinMD several times off my own blog, and included you in my blogroll. Keep up the good work, Kevin!
Retweeted, will post to my blog. Ditto @kathleen. Would love to give an ipod touch to a child in need of joy.
