I lucked out from the morbidity perspective, but the surgery (I had bilateral neck dissections) and the subsequent endocrine management has been difficult. My specialty choices were narrowed because of the changes I underwent after requiring full hormone replacement.Luckily, this doesn't kill a lot of people, but it's a major cause of morbidity.

25 year old freshly minted MD here who was diagnosed and treated for thyroid cancer during third year of school. A neck exam should be part of a physical; why don't we just encourage people to get annual physicals? Plus, thyroid cancer is quite indolent and works have a high rate of false positives.

I don’t get it.
A neck exam should be part of a physical; why don’t we just encourage people to get annual physicals?
Plus, thyroid cancer is quite indolent and works have a high rate of false positives.
