The New Hampshire ice storm hits, blogging will be slow

December 12, 2008

I’ve lost power and am digging myself out of the ice storm that’s hit southern New Hampshire. I guess I’m one of the lucky ones who found a much-coveted hotel room in the city. Blogging will be slow for the time being.

If it wasn’t for the downed power lines, ice-tipped trees are strangely beautiful.

Here are updates from the New Hampshire ice storm blog thanks to the Union Leader.

Update 12/13:
I’m out of the hotel, and one of the lucky ones who has power back. Then again, I live in a relatively densely populated subdivision. The majority who live in more remote areas however, aren’t so lucky, as power outages are projected to last until the middle of next week.

The Union Leader is maintaining a Saturday storm blog, which is regularly updated.

The Red Cross needs volunteers to staff the shelters. Anyone who is willing to help in the Nashua and Milford areas are urged to call 603-889-6664.

Here are a few slideshows of the damage, one from Flickr, and other from the Union Leader.

Brings back memories of the ice storm we had here in Arkansas about 6 yrs ago. I hope you get power back quicker than we did (4 days of no power). Lord, I am thankful for electricity.

It is nice to have a generator when these ice storms hit. I bought a Honda 2500W generator a few years ago. It is enough to power my gas furnace and a few light, tv refrigerator etc. Obviously you have to rotate the items that you have pluged in. I live in WI. so in the summer I use it for the frig and in the winter the furnace gets priority.

Is this the “global warming” that I’ve heard so much about?
