Anon comments are ok with me as well. Afterall, we do "this" to keep the conversation going, engage with others about topics important to us. If someone disagrees, there's no need to kill the comment. Let it ride. It just adds to the value of the content for future readers.

I moderate comments only for those that are totally out in left field and are off base OR are spam. As for anonymous posting, is it really that much different from all the pseudonyms that we choose? Sure, having an identity allows you to look up other things I've posted under that name, but it's so easy to just start a new identity on Yahoo.

I think that moderating (filtering) comments is as long as the sieve is fairly large, i.e. eliminating the obscenity-spewing trolls. It shows active involvement of the owner, as opposed to the immunity of the passive transmitter.

If people plot a bank robbery over the telephone, the phone company has no liability. One appellate court said the passive, non-moderating blogger had the same status as that phone company, in accordance with this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telecommunications_Act_of_1996

I would appreciate hearing more about the legal arguments or to get a link to the briefs and motions.

I don’t know that comment moderation is a good idea.
