Preventing chronic disease is all well and good, but what about we who are stuck with chronic conditions nobody can prevent and for which nobody is willing to seek cures - my personal list includes hypothyroidism, asthma, allergies, and bipolar II disorder? I am frustrated beyond belief - I can buy health care coverage only through my state's high risk pool. My$600 monthly premium is equal to some people's mortgage payments, and I don't get any equity in the deal! Educating the public to amend personal behaviors that result in "user caused" chronic diseases (heart and vascular disease, stroke, COPD, lung cancer, et al) is one thing; someone, somewhere has to stand up and fight for a health care system that penalizes neither patient nor physician for treatment of chronic conditions that a patient did not invite upon him/herself and cannot rid him/herself of through by changing diet, increasing exercise, or quitting a loathsome habit.
