Death in health care utopia

September 25, 2008

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a government run single-payer system where everyone was covered, health care would be “free”, and no one would die in the emergency department waiting ro . . . oh, never mind.

Like that could never happen in the States….

Yes, a socialized system made a mistake and deprived a person of care. But in a market-driven system, at least some people must be deprived of care – it’s intrinsic to the organization of the market. Given the choice between a system that makes unfortunate mistakes and a system in which misfortune is built-in, I’ll take the former.

Hi Kevin,

Although unfortunate, this man was not even registered NOR triaged. It would be a different story if he had been and was still waiting in the waiting room. This guy wasn’t ignored on purpose, he wasn’t even on the radar.
