Hospitals are buying physician practices
It's not just happening with primary care, but with cardiology practices as well.
This makes sense for both the hospital and the physicians, where operating a private practice becomes more difficult by the day.
What does this trend mean for patients?

In areas where there is only one hospital, this doesn't bode well for patients. As independent practices fail, there soon will be no alternative for patients frustrated with crappy service. With no competition for patients, outpatient health care in these areas will fully complete its transformation to the model made popular by Depts of Motor Vehicles and Soviet department stores.
