Just ask Dr. Murphy if he'd like to practice his specialty of geriatrics as a private physician in the city of Providence, outside any Brown medical practice plan and all the other cash flows available to the higher-ups in the academic food chain.
For years you read articles about docs who took a geriatrics fellow out of the academic interest in the subject. Then they go into practice, and in a few years, they remove any reference to geriatric training in their advertising and credentials.
Those are the sorts of questions he needed to be asked.
