I have seen many people get on disablity for drinking. Why???? And without even a requirement that they at least pretend to try to get treatment???
I have seen people on diability for 20 years for depression that resolved 191/2 years ago???? Why in the world would social security officials extend permament disability to people for time-limited and treatable conditions for which people never even got treament??? Not to mention that their is a clear motivation variable in recovery with these particular conditions.
I have had an opportunity to discuss this with people who were making some of these decisions and they just shrug their shoulders and say “What can you do”
How about saying “No”.
How about requiring treatment.
How about reviewing the case every three months.
How about sending investigators to spot check a certain percentage at home. If the guy is on disability for back pain and his hobby is deer hunting, something is wrong. It kills my back to do that.
I country is drowning in the laziness and cowardice of our decision makers from the lowest governement functionary to our pandering grasping members of congress.
I knew one doc who helped all his patients get on disability so he could get medicaid payments. These were psych patients and nobody had psych coverage.
It doesn’t make sense to give anybody disability based on the attestation of their personal physician, who is certianly no unbiased and puts himself in a bind to oppose it.
