Unsustainable trends will not continue. The question is will the plane be landed or will it crash? Will it bring down the currency with it? Will it be a planned unwinding or total chaos?
Notice how all the politicians are courageously discussing with the people how this will be handled–NOT!
The Age of Bureaucracy and the the Age of Cowardice are coinciding to bring down the American Republic. The time was when the elderly would accept a graveful exit from life rather than handicap their children with their care. The old Indians wandered off into the snow. People would forgo an operation to pay their grandchild’s college tuition. Harsh? I don’t think so. The future is more important than the past.
But since the cost has been collectivized and the lost opportunity is spread to other people’s children and grandchildren, the elderly grasp at every morsel in reach, without regard the sustainability of the nation. Just another way that collectivism undermines personal moral growth.
Hayek was right.
