A proposal to stop ED overcrowding:

We let people buy alcohol and cigarettes without a prescription, right? And people regularly kill themselves with these things””-do they not?

1 gatekeeping worse than useless April 16, 2008 at 9:34 am

I confess I haven’t read the linked article to make sure it isn’t some sort of “modest proposal” satire.

It was a mistake to make physicians gatekeepers of narcotics. Rational people will still consult for their proper use. Addictive personalities, who are most likely self-medicating to control mood, will still tend to select the safest and most effective methods, and the percentage of completely self-destructive types is likely to remain rather steady.

To my view, I would like to get nasal decongestant without being treated like a potential criminal. I would still like to be assured of truth-in-advertising of medications with regard to side-effects, effectiveness and quality control and disclosure of ingredients.

I agree. Why should I live in a police state for the futile purpose of trying to stop the idiot down the road from being and idiot.

Stoping the war on drugs would serve the dual purpose of helping us the win the war on terrorism since both in Afghanistan and South America it is largely funded by drug smuggling.
