"When everything is an emergency, nothing is an emergency"

March 22, 2008

Dr. WhiteCoat: “The influx of patients who must turn to the hospitals for routine care will in turn will put a bigger strain on an already overburdened system. Now not only are you waiting in line with the true emergencies in the emergency department, you’re waiting in line with the other poor souls who have no other means to receive health care. More roadblocks to care.”

Take a look what they’re having to do in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. The “solution” to long ER wait times is to increase homecare supports. The rational is that ER beds are being held for too long by people that should be in long term care or at home with home care supports. It’s the ultimate backlog of patients. Won’t be sorted out anytime soon.
