National Post: “The problem might not be so dire if physicians were allowed by law to extra-bill a little more freely, perhaps in work hours beyond some legislated ceiling in a given week. But this would impinge upon our holy principle of “single-tier” health care. The alternative, at least for the time being, seems to involve sitting back and letting the doctors themselves tear that equal access to shreds before our eyes.”

I looked at the article in depth, and it deserves to be checked out. It is hard to believe that Canada can be considered a fully democratic nation. For doctors it is kind of a Velvet (or perhaps flannel) Gulag.
And the Annointed Ones in the ruling bureaucracy actually believe that their outrageous oppression of physicians will increase accessibility. My general impression is that since medical education is subsidized in Canada, physicians are considered by the political class to be the chattel property of the State.

Which is what they will be here if some misguided efforts to get the government to pay our student loans for us are successful.
There is no free lunch.
Another unvarying law is that price controls will always create shortages.
I think that it was the president of Romania who recently pointed out to physicians that since the people of Romania have a right to health care, then it necessarily follows that physicians have no rights.
Western politicians are never that honest–making it that much more important that we be honest with ourselves about it.
“we reserve the right to refuse service” How many businesses have that sign up somewhere? Not in a medical practice in Canada, though. The list of those who could not be refused made the point very clearly. They must see everyone. Single payor Nirvana. Remember that Hillarycare 1.0 would have required all US doctors to work exclusively within the system. Take it or leave it. Think she’s given up that idea?
