We were on our own for much of it and we were strugling.  People can&#039;t think clearly when even modestly depressed, much less severely so.&lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;Having trained in the &quot;good old days&quot; of 120-140 hour work weeks and seeing what it does to people, I am all for work hour restrictions as  second best to training programs recognize that their housestaff are only made of flesh and blood--which many would not do.</description> <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In my internship Peds rotation, my resident was suffering from severe depression to the point of being non-functional.
