Many Medicaid plans do not pay for neonatal circumcisions at all. When circumcisions are done on adults for phimosis, chordee, recurrant balanitis, etc. they are a very delicate, plastic procedure that require significant expertice and skill. Medicare reimbursement is around $200.00 and there is a 3 month global(we cannot charge for any follow-up visits for 3 months). Also, circumcision is the most likely urological procedure that a urologist might get sued for(patients demand perfection). Most urologists prefer not to do them anymore. However solutions for health care issues will come from the market economy. The successful future of healthcare is WalMart, high technology, Concierge Practice and Medical Savings Accounts.
