I read through the PDFs on Obama’s site, and I found very little of it to be objectionable. Which surprised me as he’s a democratic candidate, and Hilary scares the hell out of me.

They're not calling it a "fine" but Medicare is planning on reducing payments to hospitals that fail to meet certain quality indicators, hospital-acquired infections among them.

And before anyone reflexively decries big-government single-payer liberals as the source of such evil policy, recall that this enlightened policy is coming out of the current Republican administration.

Go Obama! He's got his flaws, for sure, but by head and shoulders seems the least objectionable of the current crew.

A leading U.K. politician wants the government to fine hospitals for each patient who contracts an infection during their stay. In a speech, David Cameron, a member of Parliament, said English hospitals should lose part of their yearly government payment for each patient if that person contracted MRSA, or Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or another infection, Clostridium difficile, according to a report by the BBC.
