Grady Memorial Hospital on life support

January 10, 2008

How the government is treating public hospitals is shameful. Maybe the only way to send a message is to shut down.

When you consider the level of debt even with el cheapo resident slave labor at this facility, it is evident that most of the patrons simply cannot afford the maladies with which they are afflicted, many of which are avoidable (pregnancy included). It will take a Gates Foundation level charitable grant or a large transfer of wealth from the working class (read tax increase) to “save” Grady. The lawsuit and certification violations referred to in the article are ludicrous. This IS the standard of care at an institution serving complex problems brought by the indigent, illegals, drug abusers, knife-and-gun club, etc. understaffed by overworked minimum wage doctors with second-world resources. The fact is that every large city has a Grady; Atlanta is hardly unique.
