Of course medicare could cover the shingles vaccine … that might result in increased rates of administration; or, how about this: maybe the maker of the shingles vacine could charge less? The shingles vaccine is a great example of why medicine does not obey “free market” dynamics as frequently espoused by the business community and Republican candidates. The shingles vaccine is available, it’s good, it’s safe, but it is not covered and costs about 150 dollars.

If people have to pay for preventive care, including vaccines, most will simply choose not to get it. Oh, well, I don’t mind writing for valtrex or famvir.
