Unstoppable Market Forces
As long as traditional medical practices produce disgruntled, unsatisfied customers, retail clinics will continue to see explosive growth.
Comments:
As far as I can tell, these clinics specialize in antibiotics for viral colds, they run OTC tests, give OTC hydrocortisone to poison ivy, provide routine vaccinations the pharmacy already does and leaves the recordkeeping burden to the physician's office. They do it without the routine structure my office is required to have.....like plumbing.
As the article says: ".....retail clinics help a strained health-care system pare unnecessary visits to those facilities....."
As the advocate of retail clinics admits, they specialize in unnecessary visits.

There are the dissatisfied, and then there are the dissatisfied willing to pay for their satisfaction.
Opportunity for concierge practice, IMO.

Just wait until the lawsuits start rolling in. I saw a patient that was treated for backpain at one of these clinics. Turned out he had pneumonia. Good luck.
Just wait until the lawsuits come rolling in. If the lawyers think that docs have deep pockets, CVS and the like have deeper pockets. I saw a patient that was treated for back pain at one of these clinics. Turned out he had pneumonia. Good luck.
