A terrible idea, and the first commenter on the WSJ blog entry is the perfect example of why this is.
90% of medications need to go over the counter, just as in other countries. Steroids, narcotics antimetabolites, antiarrhythmics, hormones, warfarin, and “big-gun” antibiotics being the exceptions.
Don’t know about other meds, but things like Renova or Lustra (Hydronquinone 4%) should be over-the counter. The latter is OTC in Canada, and I haven’t met a doctor (non necessarilly a dermatologist) who wouldn’t give the former on demand.
