I’m first to admit that many physician offices are often found lacking in the customer service department. However, as long as there continues to be a shortage of physicians, and appointments continue be a premium, don’t expect much to change.

the sad thing about poor customer service in dr’s offices (whether its a rude receptionist, poor communication, long wait times etc) is that is reflects badly on the physician and the medical profession. (There was a whole “Being a Patient” series in the New York Times in 2005-highly recommended)
I don’t think we (doc’s) get enough training in how to attend to the office “milieu” and what a huge impact it can have on our patients and their relationship with us.
In fact most doc’s only seem to get this when they become patients themselves.
We have to start paying attention to the patients experience of being a patient especially in the context of all the 21st century “interferences” with the doctor patient relationship.
