The young-looking physician

September 15, 2007

Ten out of Ten on looking young. I’m also in my early 30’s, so I can relate:

Alot of them just flat out ask me how old I am. I usually tell them 18. One guy looked at me, said “you barely look old enough to drive,” and went into this obnoxious, prolonged, smokers cackle. I was already irritated that day, so I just stared him down straight-faced until he stopped.

I have always looked young and have always been the youngest of my peers. I am 44 and receive comments every day such as “you never age!”, “you look too young to be a doctor”, “you look like you are in your 20’s”, etc. These are complements folks, and the older I get the better they make me feel. I have a very successful practice and loyal patients. I thank them for making my day.

We have the greatest doc in the world, and he is forever young, but for some reason he doesn’t like us to mention his youthful looks. No idea why.

When someone comments on my age, I like to tell them that they are lucky that the got such a smart doctor that she went straight through medical school. Or if they are being really annoying, I tell them it is amazing what you can accomplish in a few years with a lot of hard work and a little intelligence. Oh and by the way what did you say you do for a living?
