NHS: "My bad"

September 22, 2007

Long wait times in the UK. What else is new? This time, the NHS apologizes for a case where wait times led to death.

The Man was 79. I’m sure the limited resources of the government were spent on much more deserving younger people. This is good. In the US, a person in similar circumstances could have paid for and taken time away from more deserving cases. Resources are finite, the elderly should be denied treatment so that the young may live.

“Resources are finite, the elderly should be denied treatment so that the young may live.”

Does your own parents know you feel this way about them receiving medical care?

This would have been a lawsuit in the USA

Any good parent would agree. What kind of selfish parent wants to outlive their children? Do you tell you kids that, I’m sorry son you can’t get this treatment because i want to extend my parasitic existence by a few more months

I think the phrase in Nazi Germany was “useless eaters”.

Great way to win an argument, bring in the Nazis! i admit the second part of my comment was a bit over the top.

However, my point still stands, Would you really take treatment away from your own children?

I’m not a parent myself but i have always heard that outliving your children is one of the worst things that can happen to a parent.

Therefore, because of limited resources, it’s only fair to give preference to the young. After all the old have already lived there lives, and the young are just starting.

I thought you were joking.

How in the world could you think resources for the young are greater than for the elderly??? Kids typically cost less, didn’t you realize? Kids do’t need nursing homes, dialysis, caths, etc ect. So what in the world are you talking about???

If one anticipates a scheme where medical services will be cut off after a certain age, fine.

Be up-front about it, though. This person thought he was getting the medical services promised for the last 60 years of his life.
