Great post and these are becoming a sign of the times. I felt I had to add a comment here as this is part of my solution processes. Kiosks come in all shapes and sizes and using a Tablet PC with a touch screen can be done easily enough.
The value of having this information up front can really help the “waiting game” when it comes to being checked in and seeing the physician. Patients seem to work with the Kiosk once the initial shock of seeing the unit goes away. From the professional side of this patients can enter the data and it can quickly be reviewed for accuracy and then sent to an electronic records system, thus we have a little less paper being generated. There are also card scanners that can be added so someday when we have the information let’s say on our insurance plan card, simply swiping the card could also enter into this scenario as well.
If you haven’t been to your local Sears store lately, they use the same type of technology when picking up merchandise.
Good story and also covered by NBC here as well. I think we will continue to see even more of the kiosk units employed as time goes on, along with patients being handed tablet pcs as well. One hospital in Orange County, CA already hands patients a tablet to enter their information before having a mammogram procedure. So whether it be a kiosk or a tablet pc, this is definitely a technology on the move.
