"No one is saying that the medical services in the USA are not among the world's best ...they are just NOT AVAILABLE to many AMERICANS

deborrnot"

HMM, anyone that shows up at a U. S. hospital in need of care, gets that care, it is the law.

So how is it not available?

Why do you think most of the "ILLEGALS" in the
U. S. use hospitals as their primary doctors instead of going to a doctors office?

Which helps drive the cost up for everyone else!!!!

While there may be a shortage of beds for rare multiple births in the Canadian system...it obviously has the ability to have these cases handled. What would have happened to a US family with no health insurance in similar circumstances??

The Hospital in Montana is not doing this out of the goodness of its heart...it expects to be paid ...and will be ...by the Canadian system of "socialized" medicine....and the Canadian family involved will not be bankrupted or refused service.

No one is saying that the medical services in the USA are not among the world's best ...they are just NOT AVAILABLE to many AMERICANS

deborrnot

The Hospital in Montana is not doing this out of the goodness of its heart…it expects to be paid …and will be …by the Canadian system of “socialized” medicine….and the Canadian family involved will not be bankrupted or refused service.

Even Hitler wasn't a complete failure. They still have the autobahns.

price controls = shortages. Always. Everytime.

The lack of NICU beds for higher-order multiples isn't exactly a new thing in Canada. When I had my triplets in 1995 they had to do a great deal of searching (up until the night I delivered) before they located an NICU who could take all 3 children, and some of my children were eventually sent to different hospitals for short periods of time during their 9 week NICU stay.

On the upside for us, we had a high-risk triplet pregnancy and a 9 week NICU stay for 3 children, and could walk out of the hospital with no bills. While there is no doubt that we desperately need more NICU beds, it certainly doesn't mean that the system is a complete failure.

Not only were there no NICU facilities available in Calgary, there were none available anywhere in Canada.

And while the Montana hospital, Benefis, is somewhat well known for its NICU, we're not exactly talking Seattle, Detroit or Buffalo.

So, bottom-line, even Podunk General Hospital (+ 325 miles) is better than Canadian socialized medicine.
