Walk A Mile In My Shoes Prosthesis

Steve Kurzman, a cultural anthropologist and below-the-knee amputee, tales his tale in his new blog My New Leg…

My New Leg is a blog, or online diary, about my experience of getting a new prosthesis and the process involved in how amputees get prostheses. The goal of this blog is to document the delivery of prosthetic limbs in the American health care field as well as to report back from the clinic on the personal experience of wearing one and getting a new one. If you’ve ever wondered, “where do artificial limbs come from?” or “what does it feel like to wear an artificial limb?”, then you’re in the right place.

My blogging will have a limited lifespan. While getting and adjusting to a new prosthesis will be an interesting process, simply living with one would make for uninteresting reading:

Tuesday, July 3: Woke up. Crap. My foot still hasn’t grown back. Put on my leg, which still works fine. Walked to the kitchen, and made some coffee”¦

So I’d welcome others who want to pick up where I leave off and fill in the gaps by contributing their own experiences to this blog.
