The public health mission to minimize morbidity and mortality leaves no room for the possibility that someone might accept a shorter life span in exchange for more pleasure or less discomfort.

The health care system has a vast unrecognized capacity for being the foundation of a totalitarian state. It was an integral pårt of the oppression behind the iron curtain, and the holocaust started not with Jews and Gypsies, but first with the mentally ill and mentally retarded.
