DTC ads: "Heavy on smiling people and monotone warnings"

August 22, 2007

The FDA is taking a closer look at drug ads. I still think they should be banned.

Drug ads: Of course the visuals are compelling…that’s called advertising! Beer drinkers aren’t all beautiful and happy, car drivers aren’t all sexy and powerful and people who take pharmaceutical drugs aren’t usually happy with their health! These drug ads are designed to create awareness of “issues” that don’t always need treatment and for patients to put pressure on physicians to prescribe expensive meds. My favorites are shyness, restless leg syndrome, restful sleep and the devil in Viagra.
I believe these ads should be banned as they do not contribute to health and they drive up costs.
