It is unlikely that will ever happen:
Even more important, in no other country in the world are interest groups so powerful as in the U.S. If a bill for universal health care were to be introduced in Congress in 2009, we can expect the same kind of fatal onslaught on it by insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, small and large businesses, doctors and hospitals as happened in 1993 when Bill (and Hillary) Clinton attempted to introduce universal health care.If people were dissatisfied with health care they received and clamored for change, universal health care would possibly be adopted. In surveys, however, more than 75 percent of respondents express satisfaction with the quality of their health care.

I think Kevin and I stand on opposite ends of the spectrum on the single payer care issue, but in this I am in complete agreement with him.
