Anon 7:49 Am, could you even pretend to act like a grown up? I know that may be requesting something that is impossible, but just give it a shot, and see what comes of it.

Trips to Disney land and condo's on Lake Michigan is about the sorriest comparison to health care I have yet heard. What is with you guys that you try to convince yourself that the majority of Americans REALLY can afford health care, and that we are just trying to convince you otherwise?

No, we can not afford 15-20K per year in premiums. No, we cannot afford 1,000.00 per month in medications and hell no I don't have a condo on Lake Michigan, nor even a creek running through my back yard. I drive a 1991 Honda accord and we have NEVER been to Disney. so get off your high horse.

Other developed countries don't afford their healthcare-- at least not the high tech specialty stuff. They "save" money by reducing big capital expenditures on things like modern machinery, new hospitals, doing procedures after the line-item in the budget has been spent for the quarter.

If we stopped paying for all this stuff and left primary care unlimited, we would have a much more efficient system, just like Cuba.

Mandated healthcare does get scary though-- think about how important govt lobbying gets to be for special interests-- and how pork leads to strange spending priorities. I write a bit more about the implications of mandatory health insurance at:

OK this one is easy to test. There are currently separate and parallel tracks that people with Medicare can choose. They can use regular Medicare which pays their physicians for tests without prior authorization, or they can use a Medicare HMO which is … an HMO. Which one denies more tests?
