The hundreds of thousands of non-celebrities who go into rehabs every year to get a probation officer or liscensing board off their back or at the advice of their defense attorney have been making rehab look like a joke for a long time. The data supporting the efficacy of rehab vs AA or similar self-help programs is thin at best.<br/><br/>Used to, when people go in trouble, they publically repented their sins and found Jesus. Now they go to rehab to accomplish the same purpose: to go through a public ritual which leave the public feeling compelled to forgive and not punish them.<br/><br/>No one should ever be sent to rehab in lieu of punishment--it fills rehabs with a lot of people "doing time". Oh Please!
