Designer scrubs

The next big thing in hospital fashion?

Katherine Heigl, the actress that plays Dr. Izzy Stevens on Grey’s Anatomy has designed a new line of scrubs “”¦that would allow women to infuse some of their personality and style into their work apparel.”

“I have tremendous respect for women in the healthcare industry,” said Katherine. “I know that it is often a difficult and thankless job”¦ When you feel good about how you look, you are more confident, more motivated and it can lift your spirits.”

“Katherine is a role model for many women, especially in the healthcare industry. It’s only natural for them to want to emulate her style.”

I think I will stick my finger down my throat and barf now. Now, I like Grey’s Anatomy as much as the next person (c’mon who doesn’t like to watch doctors sit at the bedside for hours on end and drawing blood, etc – god knows I don’t see that in real life) but emulate her? Which part, as an actress or as the unethical doctor she plays on TV? Jeez.

I have never watched Grey’s Anatomy and little medical TV ever, having had quite enough of the reality.

I have never, however really cared how fashionable the female nurses, doctors, and others looked as long as they looked professional and clean–and I think that is true of the patients as well. In those luxurious free moments however, when my mind has wandered to more visceral concerns, I have thought all the nurses looked great in just plain old scrubs, and the ones with a fit body underneath, even better.

More and more hospitals are restricting their nurses, techs, and maintenance workers to specific color-coded uniforms, so Dr. Izzy’s idea just doesn’t wash. Studies have shown that patients actually like the color-coded scrubs because it tells them who is who.

As if I needed one more reason to detest Grey’s Anatomy.
