I have had a kid flinch and move at the wrong moment and I glued his eye shut. I felt very bad, apologized profusely, had them keep the margins moist with ointment, and that the eye would open in a few days. I followed up by phone and by day two the eye was back open. The parents were miffed, but I am glad they were not like these raving lunatics. Just move past it.
It’s just a little temporary blindness
What if it’s the nurse’s fault? You blame your error on the kid, fine. Maybe that’s why the parents cut you some slack.
I’d be furious if you needlessly traumatized a small child, especially one I was worried about and loved, and also inconvenienced the family because you weren’t paying attention to what you were doing – in spite of the obvious need for care when dropping permanent adhesive near the eye.
Wound adhesive can be applied with a swab, but if you are choosing to use a dropper, then a. forewarn what will happen if the adhesive gets in the eye – be preapred for the possibility, and pay attention.
Nice of you to fault the parents for the nurses mistake.
