Run the numbers. The cost per year is ridiculous given the numbers I have seen quoted for a month’s supply of nexavar is $4300 (that’s wholesale). This means that for a little less than a three month extension of life someone pays over $50,000. In other words a QALY cost of a minimum of $200,000. That’s not worth it from a public health perspective. Not even David Cutler would consider it worth it. The USPSTF which Kevin is so fond of quoting (even when their recommendations are elderly and flawed) would never consider that a worthwhile treatment.
