A medblogger tones down

Hospice Blog feels he needs to tone down his entries:

Effective now, I will no longer be posting original thoughts and opinions on hospiceblog. I will continue to link to interesting third-party information and news. I would love to have people write posts on subjects of their choosing and I will put them on the blog for the world to see and evaluate. The days for me to do that have, unfortunately, come to an end.

Upcoming media coverage will continue to focus on the issue of patient privacy concerns. The recent weeks have caused medical bloggers to reassess what they write, and in some cases, shut down. I think these are the normal growing pains of such a new medium (for medicine anyways), as medical institutions and physicians try to find a balance of what is appropriate to blog.

I suggest blogging under your real name (to remove concerns about being “outed”), and ensuring your employer is ok with medical blogging. If one chooses to blog about patients (which is becoming an increasingly dicey proposition), protecting their privacy is paramount. (via Pallimed)
