How can a person stop that before it gets to step 3?

Brrrr, I hates me some spiders, and crush them when I see them, (at least the fishers and the violin spiders.)

“How can a person stop that before it gets to step 3?”

Get thee to the ER, PDQ!

Treatment of a true (most “spider bites” are not truly spider bites)recluse bite is controversial and a visit to the ER would not do much to change the course.

Treatment of recluse spider bite:

Treatment may include:

* Wash the area well with soap and water.
* Apply a cold or ice pack wrapped in a cloth, or a cold, wet washcloth to the site.
* To protect against infection, particularly in children, apply an antibiotic lotion or cream.
* Give acetaminophen for pain.
* Elevate the site if the bite occurred on an arm or leg (to help prevent swelling).
* Seek immediate emergency care for further treatment. Depending on the severity of the bite, treatment can range from administering corticosteroids and other medications to surgery of the ulcerated area. Hospitalization may be needed.
* Prompt treatment is essential to avoid more serious complications, especially in children.

If memory serves me from my wilderness medicine courses, the recluse or brown spider bite is worse than the black widow because it’s not poisonous but instead contains enzymes that “digest” your flesh in the area around the bite. Correct me if I’m wrong but typical procedures for poisonous bites, tourniquet and such, wouldn’t help stop the advancement of this type of bite.
