Another medblogger down

June 1, 2007

Are we seeing the slow elimination of a generation of physician-bloggers?

Complaints to the hospital have shut down Trench Doc.

The medical blogosphere is going through some growing pains as physicians are trying to determine what is appropriate to blog. As you can see from the Flea ordeal, pseudonyms are no protection.

Until the medical establishment decides to join the 21st century and earnestly accepts blogging, physicians writing about patient encounters and venting about their workplace do so at their own peril.

Do you think it is possible in this litigenous society?

I have serious doubt.

I would fire any physician who decided to blog about his patient care experiences. This is a direct violation of patient confidentiality. If you need to vent your frustrations with other people thats fine. do it with another colleague or friend. If you BLOG about your PATIENTS in the public arena, you are doing someone a disservice. I am sure there will be more of this as we get newer physicians who are internet saavy. CB MD

I love doctor blogs and would hate to see them go. Docs, blog anonymously without a traceable IP address. Try Tor or Anonymizer.

And I wouldn’t really care if a doctor blogged aboout me. I always assume the worst anyway :) (but the next bozo who tries to shove that endoscope down my throat without giving me enough Versed is going to get cockpunched.)

This is the truth.

If you are a doctor blogger make sure that when you register your domain that you want it anon or else anyone can do a “whois” search, find the information, and tell the appropriate institution Just to let you all know.
