But, by the same logic, people do not have a right to education, social security, police protection, fire protection, etc. These are not "rights" in the same sense that a right to free speech is a right, but they are nonetheless "right" as in the right thing to do. The last few years the US government has taken in about $2,000,000,000,000 per year in taxes. It's not a matter of getting enough money, it's a matter of being responsible and dong what's right. No, I suppose people do not have a right to health care. But, by the same logic, people do not have a right to education, social security, police protection, fire protection, etc. These are not “rights” in the same sense that a right to free speech is a right, but they are nonetheless “right” as in the right thing to do.
