HIPAA and blogging

While patient privacy is certainly a consideration, there are other issues as well. Not all employers want their employees or medical staff blogging about work. We can argue till the cows come home about whether this is needlessly restrictive or not, but the fact remains that employers often call the shots, and when you don’t dance to their tune you can be disciplined.

Taste and ethics ought to be considered as well. Where this line gets crossed will no doubt depend on individual interpretation and circumstances. It’s important to recognize, however, that there is in fact a line and that sometimes you cross it at your peril.
