Medicare prescription drug bill

60 Minutes exposes what went on behind the scenes. According to US Representative Walter Jones: “I’ve been in politics for 22 years, and it was the ugliest night I have ever seen in 22 years.”

I watched that episode of 60 minutes. It was pretty horrifying.

I wonder why 60 Minutes is only now getting around to this story.

I spent a lot of time on this bill, especially on price negotiations and the “donut hole.” My former Congressional Rep, Vic Fazio, turned into a lobbyist for the drug firms. Sen. Feinstein’s final comment was ‘this is as good as we could get.’

Result: While I appreciate getting some help from Medicare Part D, drug costs are higher than ever. I am very cynical about getting Congress to change the law, as both parties have their thumb in the pie.

Screw both the congressmen and the drug lobby. Write generics.
