Why penalize people for not buying health insurance? That is a private good. It is their business. Doesn't freedom mean anything anymore? Is nothing none of the governments business? Not even what happens in my insides? who looks there? and how I pay them?

I agree that mandated health insurance is draconian. However, if a state offered a stripped down (stripped of all the BS coverage mandates, such as: chiropractic care, massage, alternative medicine, infertility, etc, etc) and low-cost/high deductible ($250/month) HSA more young and healthy people would sign on. Maybe attach to it some tax breaks or penalties if not purchased to incentivize the purchase. Also get rid of the noncompetitive laws by allowing state to state purchase and remove barriers to allow smaller insurers to enter the field to provide competition.

Brushing and flossing is clearly a good idea that is very cheap, yet nothing short of draconian state intervention would get everyone to do it. Can that be any less true of health insurance.

Universal coverage is completely incompatible with personal liberty. It is great for serfs, but not for free Americans.
