John Edwards works a shift at a nursing home

April 11, 2007

What a bizarre photo-op. A famed malpractice trial attorney rubbing moisturizer on a nursing home resident’s legs:

Dressed in jeans and a blue work shirt, Edwards, the 2004 vice presidential nominee, helped awaken Irving Zywoto and tried to explain to the 83-year old resident who he was.

“Remember the last presidential election in 2004? Kerry and Edwards? I’m Edwards. I’m running for president this time,” he said.

Later, Edwards donned rubber gloves to rub moisturizer on Zywoto’s legs and gave him his morning shave.

Why is it bizarre? Or at least, any more bizarre than the feigned “we’re men/women of the people” any other national politicians do?

I really, really, really hope he gets sued by an unharmed but greedy resident and his lawyer. That would be justice in the truest sense.

This is what passes for statecraft when a republic degenrates into a democracy–i. e. rule by the mob, which is ever anxious to have it’s prejudices, passions and sentiments pandered to but rejects deep discussion.

I like Edwards and hope I get the chance to vote for him, rather than having to vote for either of the other two less experienced potential Democratic candidates. Edwards is the candidate most likely to bring us relief from the sorry mess the U.S. healthcare “system” is in.
